Cold cutting machines: precise, spark-free pipe cutting and beveling
G.B.C. Gulf’s pipe cold cutting machines span ØE 13 mm to 2540 mm (½” to 100″), covering every cutting and beveling task in Gulf industrial operations – from small-bore orbital cuts to large-diameter pipeline tie-ins, in workshop and field conditions.
All models except the GB CUT operate by cold mechanical cutting: no flame, no arc, no heat-affected zone. Throughout the Gulf area, many facilities – live refineries, desalination plants, LNG terminals, and nuclear sites – cannot issue Hot Work Permits. G.B.C. cold-cutting machines are the only approved method in these environments, working across carbon steel, stainless, duplex, super duplex, and Inconel, with standard and custom tooling to suit any wall thickness or bevel geometry.
Where G.B.C. pipe cutters are used in the Gulf
Oil & gas pipelines: Field teams use the MCA, FAST, SUPERCUTTER and HYPERCUTTER for pipeline tie-ins and section replacement without a flame permit – essential in operating UAE and Saudi facilities. The TAF handles demolition of corroded large-diameter lines in spark-free zones.
Water and desalination: Desalination plants and power plants require cutting large-diameter duplex pipe – heat-sensitive material where thermal cutting is not permitted. G.B.C. machines handle these cuts without affecting pipe metallurgy inside live plant perimeters.
Shipbuilding and marine repair: Providers of marine and offshore services, shipbuilding and ship repair shipyards use the PIPE 4, PIPE 6, and PIPE 8 to deliver burr-free orbital cuts on seawater pipe and deck tubing, eliminating the distortion that torch cutting causes on thin-wall stainless or copper-nickel.
Machine descriptions and specifications
GBC2700 pipe cutter – ØE 25–533.4 mm (1″–21″)
Reciprocating saw with metal body and chain locking system, fitting pipes from 1″ to 21″; optional extension kit to 30″. Cuts straight or at up to 45°; hardened steel blades are interchangeable by material and wall thickness. Pneumatic or electric drive. No Hot Work permit required – compatible with carbon steel, stainless, and duplex.
MCA CUTTER – ØE 33.4–1095 mm (1.31″–43.11″)
Split-aluminium body assembles around the pipe on site, single-operator installation – essential when access is limited. Cuts and bevels in a single clamping. Pneumatic, electric, hydraulic, or brushless electric drive. Compatible with carbon steel, stainless, duplex, and Inconel – suited for facility maintenance schedules and programs.
FAST cold cutter – ØE 153–1545 mm (6″–60″)
Self-centring cold cutting and beveling machine: the locking system positions on the pipe axis automatically, reducing setup time on buried or remote lines. Split-body design for transport to difficult cut points. Pneumatic, hydraulic, brushless electric, or electric drive (to 36″). No flame permit required – suited to desert field conditions and pipeline trunk lines.
SUPERCUTTER cold cutter – ØE 168–1530 mm (6″–60″)
Bearing slide system delivers high-speed cold cutting with no vibration – essential on offshore platforms and in confined spaces. Automatic feed maintains consistent depth on cuts and bevels. Pneumatic, hydraulic, brushless electric, or electric drive (to 36″). Operates in live production environments without a Hot Work permit.
HYPERCUTTER – ØE 1524–2540 mm (60″–100″)
Hydraulic cold cutting and beveling machine for the largest pipe diameters. High-torque motor handles heavy-wall carbon steel, stainless, duplex, and Inconel in a single pass. Produces no HAZ – meeting the metallurgical standards required at nuclear facilities such as Barakah, and at large-bore desalination and district cooling infrastructure.
TAF crawling pipe cutter – minimum ØE 406.4 mm (16″)
Crawling machine with chain clamping, stable on corroded or irregular pipe surfaces. Pneumatic or hydraulic feed. Used for decommissioning, section removal, and tie-in preparation in spark-free environments – Gulf Oil & Gas facilities undergoing asset life extension or demolition where a Hot Work permit is unavailable.
PIPE 4 and PIPE 8 orbital cutters – ØE 13–120 mm (½”–4½”) and ØE 80–230 mm (3″–8″)
Orbital cold-cutting machines for small-bore tubing: PIPE 4 manually rotated (½”–4½”), PIPE 8 motorised (3″–8″). Both produce burr-free square cuts ready for welding without secondary preparation. Used in Gulf shipyards for seawater pipe replacement and deck tubing, and in aerospace and defence facilities for precision cuts on hydraulic tubing.
PIPE 6 orbital cutter – Ø 23–170 mm (1″–6″)
Orbital cold-cutting machine for Ø 23–170 mm (1″–6″) – the mid-range between PIPE 4 and PIPE 8. Cold mechanical cuts, no heat or sparks. Covers the most common small-bore sizes in Gulf industrial maintenance and fabrication.
GB CUT flame pipe cutter – ØE 101.6–2032 mm (4″–80″)
Flame cutting machine using acetylene or propane torch on graduated joints; manual or electrically driven. Handles cutting and beveling on heavy carbon steel and alloy pipe where flame is permitted. Not suitable for live refineries, desalination plants, offshore platforms, or spark-sensitive environments. In the UAE, the majority of operating process facilities restrict open flame – for those sites, specify a cold-cutting machine from the G.B.C. range.
Choosing the right pipe cutter for your application
Machine selection depends on pipe diameter, site environment, and cut type required (square, bevel, or combined).
Diameter: PIPE 4, PIPE 6, PIPE 8 for small-bore tubing (½”–8″); GBC2700 for portable field use to 21″; MCA CUTTER for 1.31″–43.11″; FAST or SUPERCUTTER for large-diameter field work (6″–60″) – FAST for self-centring setup, SUPERCUTTER where vibration-free precision cutting and automatic feed are required; HYPERCUTTER for 60″–100″; TAF for crawling applications from 16″ upward on corroded or irregular pipe.
Cold cutting vs. flame cutting: Every machine except the GB CUT uses cold mechanical cutting – no heat, no sparks, no Hot Work permit required. This is the standard operating condition across UAE and Gulf process facilities. The GB CUT is appropriate only where a flame permit has been granted and there are no HAZ concerns on the pipe material.
